11. Course Description
Integrated skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing; grasp of thesis statements and details from conversations, academic paragraphs, and general knowledge; writing sentences and short paragraphs; extensive practice at the Self-Access Learning Center (SALC).
12. Course Outline
12.1 Learning Objectives: After taking this course, the students will be able to:
12.1.1 communicate in functional ways, using spoken and written English;
12.1.2 use vocabulary learned from the textbook and other materials supplemented for the
course;
12.1.3 write sentences and short paragraphs;
12.1.4 make good use of materials in the SALC to promote lifelong learning.

The textbook costs 300 Baht, and can be obtained at (1) UC Shop (next to the Faculty of Applied Arts building) for the Bangkok campus, and at (2) Khun Jamriang, the Office of the Dean, the Faculty of Industry and Technology Management for the Prachinburi campus. A new textbook is required for each student. Photocopied or handed-down versions are not acceptable.
12.6 Listening Practice
The students are required to practice their listening skills both inside class and outside class.
For inside class practice, the students are required to practice listening by using Global Class CD, the eWorkbook and the Teacher’s Resource CD.
For outside class practice, the students are encouraged to practice listening at the listening lab and individually through online resources posted on the webpage of the Faculty of Applied Arts: Global Class CD Listening Practice (the same as the Global Class CD) and the TOEIC Listening Practice Tests. The links for the listening exercises are available at http://www.e-learning.kmutnb.ac.th.
For the Bangkok campus, the listening lab is located in Room 11001-2 on the 10th floor, Nawamintrajini Building.
12.7 Listening Exam
The listening exam will be held during the 15th week during class time. The questions on the exam will be based on the Global Class CD and excerpts students have not heard before.
12.8 E-learning
Students must sign up at the KMUTNB’s e-learning website in order to download course materials, the self-evaluation form, course syllabus, listening practice, etc.

12.9 Self-Access Learning Center
For the Bangkok campus, the SALC is in Room 21014 on the 1st floor,
Nawamintrajini Building.
For the Prachinburi campus, it is on the 1st floor of the main library building.

Note: Grade F = 0 – 42
*Video Project: Students get into groups of 4 to 5 and create a video clip of themselves speaking English using conversation topics related to any of the 5 units in the coursebook. The conversation(s) can be an adaptation of any listening script(s) in the book, an adaptation of conversations acquired outside the textbook, or conversation(s) created by themselves. The video must be 7 to 10 minutes long, consisting of all students in the group talking to one another in English (two or more people in each conversation). All video clips will be eligible for a competition at the end of the semester, and the awarded winners’ videos will be on display at the Self-Access Learning Center (SALC) on the 10th floor, Nawamintrajini Building.
Scoring
The total score for this project is 10 points. It will be divided into three parts:
Part 1: Topic submission (Week 6, July 4-8) = 1 point. If students submit the topic on time, they will get 1 point.
Part 2: Script submission (Week 11, August 15-19) = 4 points. Points will be given according to the following criteria:
1. Students list the responsibilities of each group member. (1 point)
2. Students provide a list of steps in doing the project. (1 point)
3. Students list the tools and materials used. (1 point)
4. Students provide video scripts with references. (Students are encouraged to use the content from the textbook. Irrelevant content/scripts will not be accepted.) (1 point)
Part 3: Video clip submission (Week 15, September 12-16) = 5 points. Please use the following criteria to assess the video clip. (Raw score ÷ 3; Please rate from the following three-point scale: 3 = Excellent, 2 = Good, 1 = Fair)

** Class attendance and participation
Students must fill out the self-evaluation form for class attendance and participation. At the end of each class, the teacher will collect and recheck all self-evaluation forms.
Attendance scoring
5 points = Students miss class once a semester.
4 points = Students miss class twice a semester.
3 points = Students miss class three times a semester.
2 points = Students miss class four times a semester.
0 points = Students miss class more than four times a semester.
