Prerequisite: 810301 English 1

Course Description: English competence for communication and academic goals. Practice in Self-Access Learning Centre to promote life-long learning.

Learning Objectives: After taking this course, the students will be able to:
1. communicate in functional ways, using spoken and written English;
2. use vocabulary learnt from the textbook and other materials supplemented for the
course;
3. write sentences and short paragraphs;
4. make good use of materials in the SALC to promote lifelong learning.

Coursebook: Clandfield, L. (2010) Global. Oxford: Macmillan.

External Reading: Brennan, F. (2010) Tasty Tales. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.
For the midterm exam, the external reading includes ‘Kung Fu Spice.’
For the final exam, the external reading includes ‘Fugu’ and ‘Changes.’

Listening Practice:
1. Practice your listening skills by yourselves at http://www.arts.kmutnb.ac.th.
2. Practice listening skill at the listening lab at Room 11001-2 on the 10th floor,
Nawamindrajini Building.

Listening Examination:
The listening exam will be held in the 15th week during class time. The questions on the exam will be based on the contents of the coursebook.

Self-Access Learning Center (SALC): Students can learn and practice English individually using several kinds of English material like books, games, movies, and others. The SALC is at Room 21014 on the 10th floor, Nawamindrajini Building.

Evaluation:
- 6% Quiz 1 (Week 8, on 13-17 Dec 2010, Page 66-91)
- 35% Midterm examination
- 6% Quiz 2 (Week 14, on 7-11 Feb 2011, Page 94-119)
- 35% Final examination
- 10% Listening examination (Week 15, on 14 Feb-18 Feb 2011)
- 4% Class attendance
- 4% Participation
Total 100% ***N.B. Grade F is 0-35 % of the total score.***
